Power Steering Service

The heart of any power steering system is the pump. The pump pressurizes the power steering fluid that provides assist for steering. A belt that is run by the engine drives most pumps; a few are electrically powered. There are two hoses, high pressure and low pressure. High-pressure hose passes fluid from the pump to the steering gear. The low-pressure hose returns the fluid back to the pump.

A skilled Dick Adams technician will:

  • Use a safe, powerful cleaner to dissolve and suspend varnish and deposits that form in your car’s power steering system.
  • Flush entire system of all old fluids and contaminants and install new high tech fluid to protect against noise, wear and leakage in the system.

Benefits after this service you’ll notice:

  • Fluid leak prevention
  • Reduced wear
Recommended service interval: Every 24,000 miles or 2 years

If your serpentine belt breaks, your power assisted steering may not work. Don’t panic – your vehicle will still steer. It will just be harder to turn the wheel. Allow for extra time to turn and pull over as soon as it is safe. At Dick Adams Automotive in Salinas we install quality NAPA replacement parts.
